ALAN LEESMITH

In his more than 34 years in the equipment leasing industry, Alan Leesmith has witnessed the extensive scale of its development and change. A chartered accountant and principal in the London office, Alan has built a distinguished career in sales-aid (vendor) leasing.

Alan helps lessors, equipment vendors and manufacturers establish, expand and improve their customer financing programmes in Europe, the USA and Australia. An expert in marketing, strategic planning, funding and insurance, he knows the markets and helps Alta clients identify and maximise their sales opportunities, whether that means penetrating deeper into a vertical niche or going broader in cross-border leasing programmes.

Prior to joining Alta, he worked for Anglo Leasing, a leading independent sales-aid lessor in the United Kingdom. During the 25 years Alan was a director, Anglo’s profits grew steadily, it achieved a full public listing on the London Stock Exchange and the first AAA-rated securitisation for small-ticket leases in the United Kingdom.

In 1997, Alan founded a consulting firm, Bavelaw Associates Ltd., and further broadened his experience in international vendor leasing.

Formerly an active member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Alan served on the Technical Advisory Committee and was a member of the working party reviewing SSAP21 lease accounting standards.
