Castillo-Triana Appointed to Represent Colombia at UNIDROIT

Alta Principal Rafael Castillo-Triana was appointed as official representative of the government of Colombia at the Second Meeting of the Governing Council of UNIDROIT (International Institute for the Unification of Private Law). He also was appointed by the Latin American Leasing Association (FELALEASE) to participate in official discussions of UNIDROIT's Draft Model Law on Leasing.

The meeting took place 6-9 April 2008 in Muscat, Oman, under official invitation by the Sultanate of Oman. In representation of Colombia, Castillo-Triana led changes to the wording of the current draft to adapt the text to the needs and aspirations of the leasing industry in developing countries, while setting the legal framework to build the necessary trust of US lessors and other global lessors to operate in such emerging markets. The changes were supported by the delegations of the United States of America, the People's Republic of China, the Russian Federation, the Republic of South Africa, Oman, and other countries.

A detailed report about the meeting will be available in the next few weeks via Alta's Web site.
